GEOMET® 321
Close to zero -VOC
NOF METAL COATINGS EUROPE offers to supply its compound in pre-mixed form, which enables the reduction in manufacture of the solvent content in the product used by the coater. The improvement carried out on the different steps of the process has been achieved by the cooperation of two universities, while staying on the basis of a hybrid structured binder (organo-mineral) elaborated by a Sol-Gel process. The stability of the zinc and aluminium flakes in aqueous dispersion at ambient temperature is remarkable and constitutes a major characteristic for the success of this product. The GEOMET® 321 coating can be obtained using the pre-mixed compound or mixing the chemicals at the coater's facilities without a composition or performance difference, except a higher VOC content when not pre-mixed.
The pre-mixed compound has a very low VOC content (organic solvent: ~ 3% to 5% w/w), which allows the coaters to work in a more pleasant environment.
The use of these compounds is economical for the customers / coaters because they contain almost no VOC. Therefore treating gas emissions is not necessary.
This innovation comes within NOF METAL COATINGS EUROPE's company strategy, which is aimed at increasing coating life duration and reducing their impact on the environment.
GEOMET® 321 is used for the protection of metallic parts against corrosion. It is used in many industrial areas: automotive, wind turbine, construction, electrical equipments, renewable energy… It increases the life of components and makes the assembly of fasteners easier.
This process development was awarded the Pierre Potier 2009 Prize for "chemical innovation favouring sustainable development".
